Will Sharad and Uddhav Factions Betray the INDIA Alliance? Political Heat Rises in Maharashtra After Fadnavis Meeting (Image Source: Social Media)

Maharashtra politics has witnessed major turbulence in recent days. On Friday, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis met with Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar) chief Sharad Pawar and Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) president Uddhav Thackeray. After the Chief Minister’s meeting with the key leaders of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance, the political temperature in the state has visibly risen. Fadnavis himself revealed the reason behind this meeting.

Fadnavis Seeks Support for C.P. Radhakrishnan

The Chief Minister met both leaders to seek support for NDA candidate C.P. Radhakrishnan in the upcoming Vice Presidential election scheduled for next month. Following this, speculation began over whether the Sharad Pawar faction and the Uddhav Thackeray faction would abandon the INDIA bloc and back the NDA in this election.

Who Will the MVA Support in Vice Presidential Polls?

Speaking to the media on Friday, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said:

“I spoke with Uddhav Thackeray ji and Sharad Pawar ji and requested them to support the candidature of Maharashtra’s Governor (C.P. Radhakrishnan) in the Vice Presidential election. Uddhav ji told me that he will discuss the matter and inform me later. Sharad Pawar said that he would have to support the candidate nominated by the Opposition.

'Rajnath Singh Also Called'

Earlier on Thursday, Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut claimed in Delhi that both Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh had called Uddhav Thackeray, urging him to support the NDA candidate.

MVA’s Constituents

In Maharashtra, the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) comprises the Congress, the NCP (Sharad Pawar faction), and the Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray). These three parties are also part of the INDIA alliance at the national level.

NDA and Opposition Candidates Announced

Currently, the NDA has fielded C.P. Radhakrishnan as its vice-presidential candidate. Meanwhile, the Opposition bloc has nominated former Supreme Court judge B. Sudarshan Reddy for the same position. The vice presidential election is scheduled to take place on September 9, when voting will be held.
